Nanoscale Bioimaging

Determining the gender of chicks before hatching.

Hatchery eggs are incubated and chicks are sexed days or even weeks after hatching when it is possible to determine gender. This occupies valuable hatchery resources and is very labour intensive. The team has developed a nanoscale bio-imaging technology that identifies properties such as gender at an embryonic stage.
