Hatchery eggs are incubated and chicks are sexed days/weeks after hatching when it is possible to determine gender. This occupies valuable hatchery resources and is very labour intensive. The team has developed a nanoscale bio-imaging technology that identifies properties such as gender at an embryonic stage.
