TRAM Team Spotlight: Merida Sussex

Hannah McLean · July 18th, 2023

The success of TRAM is undeniable, and it’s all thanks to the expertise, passion, and dedication of the people who run our programs. To shine a spotlight on our TRAM team superstars, we’ve sat them down for a one-on-one chat to discover more about who they are and what they do at TRAM.

Introducing, Merida Sussex, our TRAM Runway Program Manager:

A singer, a founder, an award winner, an MBA graduate, and a data rights and tech advocate for artists. Is there anything she can’t do? Passionate about supporting researchers across all fields, we're stoked to have Merida join our #TRAMfam with the key responsibility of helping our researchers tick over into the next stage of their research translation journey.

Join us as we learn more about Merida and what she does at TRAM:

1. What is the purpose of your role as TRAM Runway Program Manager?

My role is to develop and strengthen a team’s vision of research entrepreneurship and to help connect them to opportunities that will help accelerate their research impact.

2. What do you love about being part of TRAM and working in the research impact space?

For years I have helped artists realise their music so I love being a part of the entrepreneurial space where I can continue to help visionaries realise their ideas. I love to facilitate creative expression and I thrive in the TRAM innovation and startup world.

3. If you were stuck out at sea with any one person, who would it be and why?

I think it would have to be someone who is really good with boats and getting us not stuck at sea. I don’t want to be stuck above the unknowable chasms...

4. How do you fill your cup outside of work?

I like singing, yoga, and swimming.

5. What’s a common misconception people have about TRAM?

I think a really common misconception that comes up a bit is that there is only one program called TRAM, but there are actually four different programs under TRAM: TRAMx, Track, Runway and Air.

6. Who’s one person you are grateful for and why?

My son – he's the light of my life.

Runway is the third program offered by TRAM that provides hands-on, experiential education that supports our research entrepreneurs as they delve deeper into confirming their market fit. The 12-week program is designed to help researchers strengthen their team capabilities, connect them with a whole network of expert advisors and mentors, and provide top-tier coaching that assists them in making well-informed decisions that accelerate their research impact.
